This old post is 8 years old. I wonder how many Witnesses remember Tony's words back then and if you told them that 8 years later what would be happening in the Borg today they wouldn't die laughing because the end is so close.

The prayer switch
by Sour Grapes insomething that i have often thought about is how does god know when our thoughts go from normal thoughts to when we say a silent prayer?
does god listen to all of the thoughts of earth's 8,000,000,000 people 24/7 and when one person goes into prayer mode then god's ears perk up with an "incoming" alert?
then he has to decide if he answers the prayers to help a brother with cancer or just let the poor guy die.

Half banana,
What a great thought, "What a crazy world it would be if God answered prayers."

Something that I have often thought about is how does God know when our thoughts go from normal thoughts to when we say a silent prayer? Does God listen to all of the thoughts of earth's 8,000,000,000 people 24/7 and when one person goes into prayer mode then God's ears perk up with an "incoming" alert? Then he has to decide if he answers the prayers to help a brother with cancer or just let the poor guy die. Should he direct a witness to go to a certain house to place the magazines or just roll the dice?
It all seems so moronic. If God wanted to reveal himself and prove that he is the one true God, he sure picked the wrong group of people to get the job done.

God will not let you suffer more than you can bare.
by StephaneLaliberte ini had a conversation with an old jw friend and he spent a good part of the evening preaching to me.
as i am “inactive”, i am forced to stay low, thus, i was not argumentative.
yet, at one moment, he said that angels protect jws in field service and other situations.

The earth is just a little speck of dust in the universe and we are thus even smaller. God would need an electron microscope to even find us. For people to think that God is the master puppet and he directs a witness to give a pioneer $40 so they can put money in their car to drive to the assembly and then decides when a bus with Witnesses that is heading for a crash to let it happen are just morons.
God has bigger fish to fry.

Outside JW World They Barely Exist
by Farmer Jim1 inis anyone else staggered by the fact that outside of the organization most of the general public seem to know very little or nothing about jw’s?
when i was in i was led to believe that 99% of the worlds population had been giving sufficient warning, knew what it was all about and were stubbornly sticking to their immoral ways.
the reality seems to be that the entire jw universe is barely noticeable to the masses.

JW's think the world revolves around their theocratic activities and that god manages things for their advantage, from getting airplane tickets to get out of Russia or making nice dry weather to permit the glue on the new silver sword bible to dry in time for release.
When I was an elder and out in service, we felt good about our work even when we did not talk to anyone. People saw us out in service and they would say, "there are those Jehovah's Witnesses". They said his name and rejected our message thus they deserve to die.

Why I lost my religion
by Sour Grapes ini was a jw for over 50 years and recently just stopped cold turkey going to the meetings.
years of sitting at the meetings with the boredom, the gloom and doom, repetition of doctrine, the gloom and doom, the fake love, the gloom and doom, the end being so close, do more - do more, just got to be too much for me to stomach.
i stopped praying to god and no longer thank god for the food before i eat.

I really appreciate everyone's input on this thread. I am afraid that in 50 years there will still be millions of JW's and the overlapping generation will be overlapped again or just dropped. This won't phase most of the JW's at that future time just like the failed prophecy of 1914, being when Armageddon breaks out, not the beginning of Jesus' invisible rulership as taught in the 1930's, (how convenient that it is invisible) or the failed 1975 prophecy doesn't impact Witlesses today. Stupid is as stupid does.

“There’s nothing out there in the world for you...”
by Jules Saturn inhow would you guys react if or when you were told this phrase by a jw while having a conversation?
another phrase is “this world...” or “this system, like gum will chew you up and when it’s done with you, spit you right back out.”.
one i’ve been personally told was from a convert that had told me “whenever i speak to young ones that want to know if the grass is greener on the other side, i tell them i was a part of it.

The world can offer a good education, a good income, a good retirement, good friends who won't shun you if you don't agree with their belief system, and the ability to use one's brain to think. Witnesses have undergone a spiritual lobotomy.

Phoebe,
I know exactly how you feel. I stopped praying and reading the Bible. I now believe that when one dies that is it. I have several family members who are still in the Borg. Everything is about how bad world conditions are, how we need the kingdom, and how good it will be in paradise. They are not enjoying the only life they have because they live in the future.
I have listened to many church services on my phone just to take a peek at what they have to offer. It is better than the Witchtower Company but it just doesn't ring my bell. I guess this is due to the fact that I once believed that I was apart of the only true religion and everyone and everything else was wrong. The end was coming and I was going to be in paradise. When you realize that what you once believed was just a big pile of steaming horse crap it unhinges your belief system.

It is a shame that when the JW's go to a meeting at the Kingdumb Hell they check their brains in at the door and then they can soak up all of the information from the platform with their heads bobbing up and down. What they hear they have heard a hundred times before. The only thing that is new is "new light."
Just to think that I was a bobblehead at one time. They believe if a householder rejects the magazines from a pimply faced teenager knocking on their door that they have almost signed their death warrant.

Even if JW's were right about the gloom and doom and god was going to destroy the world, I can't even imagine living in a world that is run by elders and elderettes. And what new tests would god give us to prove our loyalty to him during the 1,000 year reign?
The final test after the 1,000 years sounds like a lot of fun. In Revelation chapter 20 we read:
"When the thousand years are complete, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to assemble them for battle. Their number is like the sand of the seashore. And they marched across the broad expanse of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. But fire came down from heaven and consumed them.…"
Maybe then, at last, no more test from god. Sure sounds like hundreds of thousands of people or even millions of people ("their number is like the sand of the seashore") weren't too happy with paradise and having a pet lion and sitting around all day having picnics. Perhaps it all got to be a little boring after several hundreds of years of life.
